Blueprinting autonomy: Blue Planet’s path to Level 4+ autonomous networks with real-world use cases
A white paper by Blue Planet, a division of Ciena.
Most CSPs today operate at Level 2 or Level 3 of the TM Forum Autonomous Network maturity model, with Level 4 the target for many Tier 1 operators. This white paper sets out Blue Planet’s approach to reaching Level 4 and beyond, aligned with the TM Forum reference architecture (IG1251 and IG1252). It covers intent-based automation, an agentic OSS fabric built on an OSS knowledge graph, network digital twins, observability and orchestration integration, and how to evaluate progress towards Level 4. It also includes use cases across transport and mobile networks, including IP transport QoS optimisation, proactive assurance of multi-layer IP/optical networks and 5G slice service order delivery.
